Gabriel J. Lewis (b. 1999, London) is a classical painter based in London who works only from life and with traditional, natural materials.
Gabriel studied briefly at the New York Academy of Art and the Nerdrum Studio in 2019, following which he read English Literature at University College, Durham, from 2019-2022. During his time at Durham, he was selected for the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition.
In 2022, Gabriel began his training at the Charles H. Cecil Studios, Florence. His portrait, ‘Shannice’, painted during his third term at the Studios, was selected for the Portrait Award 2024 at the National Portrait Gallery. Gabriel was the 2024 Portrait Award's youngest exhibitor.
In December 2025, Gabriel had his first altarpiece, a three-metre-tall painting of Christ on the Cross, installed at Saint Anastasia Catholic Church, Los Angeles.
